Dr. Jonathan D. Newman is an associate professor of medicine in cardiology and director of clinical research for the Center for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine and NYU Langone Health. A graduate of Brown University, he completed his undergraduate medical education and Master of Public Health in 2005 at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Newman completed his internship, residency, chief residency, and fellowship in cardiology at Columbia University Medical Center–NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, where he also completed a National Institutes of Health (NIH) T32 cardiovascular research fellowship. Dr. Newman joined the faculty of NYU Grossman School of Medicine–NYU Langone Health in 2013. In 2015, Dr. Newman was named the inaugural Eugene Braunwald M.D. assistant professor of cardiology. Since joining the NYU Faculty, Dr. Newman’s research program investigating novel mechanisms of coronary artery disease risk and prevention has been continuously funded by the NIH, American Heart Association, Doris Duke Clinical Foundation, and others. Dr. Newman is leading the largest NIH-supported randomized clinical trial testing the effectiveness of high-efficiency particle air cleaners to lower blood pressure among New York City adults with stable high blood pressure. He maintains an active clinical practice at NYU Langone and NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation-Bellevue Hospital as an echocardiographer and inpatient and preventive cardiologist, along with teaching and supervising residents, fellows, and junior faculty.
