Barrak AlAhmad, MBBS
Dr. Barrak Alahmad is the director of occupational health and climate change at the Department of Environmental Health at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He holds a medical degree from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom; a master's in public health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health; and a doctorate in population health sciences from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
Dr. Alahmad studies climate change and health in the Middle East, specifically the adverse impacts of dust storms and extreme temperatures on vulnerable populations. His work has been highlighted by professional health organizations, including the World Health Organization and the American Heart Association, and numerous media outlets, including the BBC, CNN, New York Times, The Guardian, among others.
Dr. Alahmad has received multiple awards for his work on heat and health, including from the Boston Congress of Public Health, the International Society of Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE), and recently in 2025, from the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Board-Council which recognized him for excellence in communicating science with the general public on issues of migrant workers, heat, and health in Kuwait.
