Sonia Chabaane, PhD
Sonia Chaabane is currently a Projects Specialist at the Institute for Population Health at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q). She is involved in a variety of projects promoting health awareness and disease prevention in the State of Qatar and the region. A current focus of her work is to overview and map the physical activity-related behaviors in the Middle East and North Africa using systematic reviews, data meta-synthesis and qualitative assessments.
Sonia's research interests also include the use of medically assisted reproduction (MAR) and the risk of adverse neonatal outcomes. She conducted observational studies aimed at assessing the risks of multiple pregnancies and major congenital malformations associated with the use of different modalities of MAR in a Quebec birth cohort. She also conducted several systematic reviews and meta-analyses to summarize the literature and evaluate the risk of adverse neonatal outcomes associated with the use of MAR, antimalarial, and antidepressant drugs during pregnancy. Additionally, she has worked on characterizing the epidemiology of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) in the Middle East and North Africa within the Infection Disease Epidemiology Group at WCM-Q.
Sonia holds a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from the University of Quebec in Montreal, a Master’s equivalent degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, specialized in medication and population health, from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Montreal/the Research Center of Ste-Justine University Hospital, and a PhD in Pharmacoepidemiology from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Montreal, Qc, CA.
