Dr. Sohaila Cheema is the Assistant Dean for the Global Institute for Population Health (GIPH) and Associate Professor of Clinical Population Health Sciences at Weill Cornell Medicine - Qatar (WCM-Q). She actively participates in oversight, development and implementation of GIPH education, research, and community programs. Passionate about advancing health education, Dr. Cheema teaches public health and related disciplines to premedical and medical students as well as community medicine residents. She also co-directs the pre-medical course, Health and Disease: A Global Perspective, and serves as the Associate Director for the Health Policy and Population Health Clerkship.

Dr. Cheema is dedicated to advancing capacity building and lifelong learning among healthcare professionals through the strategic development, implementation and evaluation of continiuing professional development/continuing medical education initiatives. Her efforts are exemplified by flagship programs such as the Certificate in Lifestyle Medicine and Understanding Basics of Health Research. As co-founder of the Lifestyle Medicine Interest Group-Qatar she has helped cultivate a community of professionals committed to advancing evidence-based lifestyle practices and behavior change. She also collaborates with private and governmental institutions on initiatives that promote health literacy, disease prevention, and self-care across Qatar. Moreover, she serves on or has served on numerous national and international committees spanning government, academia, and global health. She is also Program Director for the Global Health Service Learning Program through which premedical students engage in community health promotion in Bali, Indonesia.

Dr. Cheema’s research is multidisciplinary, focusing on noncommunicable diseases, lifestyle medicine, healthy longevity, and contemporary healthcare and population health issues. She has authored more than 70 peer-reviewed publications and actively contributes to advancing evidence-based approaches to health promotion, disease prevention, healthy aging, and improved quality of life across populations.

Dr. Cheema, a medical doctor by training, completed a Fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine, University of Arizona. She is a certified lifestyle medicine physician, and a diplomate and fellow of the International Board of Lifestyle Medicine. She holds a Master of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and is Certified in Public Health by the National Board of Public Health Examiners, USA.
