Dr. Elena Lopez Khoury is the Assistant Director of the Student Wellness & Counseling Center at Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar. She has been a counselor for the Center since 2008. She earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida, USA and maintain a license in District of Columba, USA. Throughout her training, she gained counseling experience in community mental health centers, Veteran’s Hospitals, cancer centers, and university counseling centers (i.e., University of Central Florida and Vanderbilt University). She has an interest in health psychology, focusing on issues such as weight management, pain management, and smoking cessation. She also is interested and has undergone additional training in areas of mindfulness, meditation, and somatic therapies. Many of these skills can help clients who are suffering from negative mental health issues as well as to provide skills which build resiliency among those who are not currently facing a mental health issue. 

Dr. Khoury has published research in peer-reviewed journals, most papers focusing on the areas of smoking cessation and body image concerns.

Dr. Khoury is passionate about connecting with students and helping them to learn skills in order to be more resilient in times of crises and to be more aware of themselves.
