Dr. Arthur Hengerer is a graduate of the Albany Medical College, he completed his residency in Otolaryngology at the SUNY Upstate Medical Center and then a Fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology at the Boston Children’s Hospital. He has spent his academic career in Rochester, NY and served as the Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Rochester from 1981-2007. Today he remains a Professor in the department. He was appointed to the New York State Board of Professional Medical Conduct in 2002 and has served as the Chair of the Board since 2011. He is a fellow of the Federation of State Medical Boards and served on multiple committees including Planning, Education, Opioid Prescribing guidelines, and chaired the Ethics and professionalism, and Burnout and wellness work groups. In 2010 he was elected to the FSMB Board and served two terms before being elected Chair of the Board in 2016. At present he serves as a Co-lead for the Conceptual Model committee of the Action Collaborative for Well-being and Resilience at the National Academy of Medicine. He is a representative of the FSMB to the Advisory Board of the National Board of Medical Examiners.

When not committed to the above activities he enjoys golf and bicycling and designing and making stained glass window panels. His family includes 3 children Mark, Amy and Todd and they have 8 grandchildren among them.
