Dr. Karima Chaabna is an epidemiologist who serves as the Population Health and Communication Specialist at the Institute for Population Health (IPH), Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCMQ) since December 2016. She is responsible for developing, managing, and leading research and related projects focusing on population health in the State of Qatar and the region. She also participates in awareness campaigns to engage with the community on topics such as nutrition and road safety. Prior to joining IPH, she was a Postdoctoral Research Associate with the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Group, WCM-Q where her research focused on characterizing the epidemiology of hepatitis C virus infection in the Middle East and North Africa region. Additionally, she was involved in research on foodborne and sexually transmitted infections. Dr. Karima has a Research Master in Population and Health, specialization Biostatistics and a Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the Claude Bernard University, Lyon, France. During her Ph.D., she was a student at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (affiliated to the World Health Organization) in Lyon, France. Her Ph.D. research focused on assessing geographical patterns and time trends of HIV/AIDS and AIDS-related cancer morbidities in the North and Sub-Saharan Africa.
