Abdallah Tom is a senior medical student at Weill Cornell Medicine - Qatar. He is a third culture kid: Sudanese, born and raised in the UAE, and comes from a family of businessmen and entrepreneurs that planted within him the seed of management and leadership. From an early age he has been fascinated by the brain and mind, humanity and society. He went on to pursue a career in medicine, and currently he aspires to become a psychiatrist and integrate healthcare policy making and mental healthcare advocacy on a national and international level. He has served as the president of the Medical Students’ Executive Council (MSEC) at Weill Cornell Medicine during which he embarked on a journey to tackle Medical Students’ mental health and burnout. He is currently serving as the President of the Qatar Medical Students’ Association leading forward healthcare students in Qatar by redefining healthcare one student at a time and contributing to the national and international healthcare community. He has served and continues to serve on multiple committees relating to medical education and continues to advocate for his peers. He is passionate about global mental health which led him to begin working in improving access to mental health care in Sudan during the time of the Sudanese Revolution. He continues to work on improving access to mental healthcare in his home country, Sudan. His prior experiences have shaped his passion for psychiatry and serving the community. He is passionate about social justice, gender equality, healthcare equity, Universal Health Coverage, and environmental sustainability.
