Completion celebration for Pre-Med students
April, 2015
Each student was presented with a certificate from Dr. Marco Ameduri and Dr. Kevin Smith.
There were scenes of jubilation in Lecture Hall 4 as 42 students were awarded certificates marking their completion of the Pre-Medical Program.
In front of an audience of family members and friends, the students were presented with their certificates at the Pre-Medical Completion Ceremony, held at WCMC-Q on Thursday 23 April.
The Pre-Med Program equips students with a thorough understanding of the basic sciences, mathematics and English that will enable them to meet the challenges of the rigorous four-year Medical Program.
Following a welcome message from Dr. Rachid Bendriss, assistant dean for student recruitment, outreach and foundation programs, the opening remarks were given by, Dr. Marco Ameduri, associate dean for pre-medical education. He said: “It is my great pleasure to welcome you here today and it is wonderful to see the hall full of happy students and proud and happy parents.
“This is a moment of great joy and celebration, and also a moment to say thank you to the parents, the faculty and staff who have supported the students to make this success possible. We are also very grateful for the leadership and vision of Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser and the continued support of our sponsor, Qatar Foundation, without which we would not be celebrating as we are today.”
Student speaker Tala Kareem Altaji said everyone had
supported each other.
Keynote speaker Dr. James Roach, associate professor of chemistry, delivered an address that outlined the strengths and character traits of each student. Summarizing, he said: “Class of 2019, as individuals you are very talented young people, but together you are even greater than the sum of your parts. Continue to grow together, continue to help each other. Take some time this summer to rest, to reenergize and then come back here ready to do your very best once again.”
Student speaker Tala Kareem Altaji paid warm tribute to her classmates. “It is with immense pleasure that I stand before you today as we celebrate the end of our journey as Pre-Med students,” she said. “We can all agree that the last two years were filled with stress, pressure, sleepless nights and endless cramming sessions. But they also taught us the importance of learning from each other, accepting each other and most importantly, appreciating each other.
“Without each other we could not all be here today and for that I have every single one of you to thank.”
Dr. Ameduri and Dr. Kevin Smith, assistant dean for pre-medical education, then presented the certificates to the students, before the audience watched a short film prepared by the Pre-Medical students to conclude the ceremony.
