WCMC-Q signs MoU with U.S. medical training consortium

WCMC-Q has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the U.S.-based Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM), an organization designed to foster the professional development of medical faculty.
Members from AAIM will collaborate with WCMC-Q’s Division of Continuing Professional Development to help faculty at the college incorporate the very latest advances in student and medical resident education into their skillsets.
Dr. Thurayya Arayssi, WCMC-Q’s associate professor of medicine and associate dean for continuing professional development, heads the team that has developed the relationship between WCMC-Q and AAIM. She said: “We are extremely pleased to have entered into this agreement with AAIM, which we feel will be of huge benefit to both faculty and students at WCMC-Q. What AAIM offers is an extraordinarily effective organizational structure that will allow our faculty to interact with leading experts in medical education from a variety of elite medical institutions.
“This relationship will help us to ensure that our highly skilled faculty at WCMC-Q consolidate and enhance their abilities to provide a truly world-class medical education to our students.”
Based in Virginia, AAIM is a consortium of five academic medical organizations that collectively represent departments of internal medicine at some of the best teaching hospitals across the United States and Canada. The organization facilitates sharing expertise that teaching institutions can draw upon to support their own efforts to achieve the very highest educational standards in their internal medicine programs.
A two-day activity addressing recent advances in student and medical resident education is scheduled to take place at WCMC-Q in November 2015.
The activity will feature keynote lectures and workshops developed by a team of expert medical educators from the United States, Qatar, UAE, Oman and Lebanon and will build upon the pedagogical skills of faculty relating to the assessment of entrustable professional activities (EPAs), remediating the struggling learner and being a digital citizen.
