Day of celebration for WCMC-Q Foundation students

Dr. Rachid Bendriss, assistant dean for student recruitment, outreach and foundation programs, Dr. Javaid Sheikh, dean of WCMC-Q, and Dr. Marco Ameduri, associate dean for pre-medical education, with the successful foundation students.

The dream of becoming a doctor moved a step closer for 20 students at WCMC-Q as they completed the college’s Foundation Program.

The Foundation Program helps students to raise their English language skills to the level required for the pre-medical program and medical school, and also provides a strong grounding in the sciences. The aim is to ensure the students have the best chance of success if accepted onto WCMC-Q’s pre-medical program.

On Thursday 8 May, the Foundation Program students, the majority of whom are Qatari, received their completion certificates in front of friends and family at a special ceremony at WCMC-Q.

Dr. Rachid Bendriss, assistant dean for student recruitment, outreach and foundation programs, said the students deserved to be proud of themselves.

He said: “Despite an infinite amount of homework, an increasing number of tests, math and reading projects you were patient and persistent and highly motivated to march on to success.

“You all have admirable personal attributes and talents that will contribute to your success in whatever you do in the future.

“I want to thank you all for your hard work and your families for their consistent support. I also want to acknowledge the efforts of WCMC-Q’s faculty and teaching assistants who have given freely of their time and experience to get you to this point in your educational careers.”

Dr. Bendriss and Dr. Marco Ameduri, associate dean for pre-medical education, presented the students with certificates marking their completion of the Foundation Program.

Student Mohammed Al-Kubaisi said the nine-month long program had flown by.

Addressing the audience he said: “We are here today because we are about to complete the Foundation Program, and then move on to the next stage of the journey; the journey that will eventually see us obtain a degree in medicine and become doctors. Then we will be able to repay our nation and community and serve humanity.”
