WCMC-Q opened its doors on 30 November for its flagship student recruitment event, Medicine Unlimited.

Middle and high school students and their families visited the college for the annual fair, which offered the chance to discover the college’s state-of-the-art facilities, take part in interactive demonstrations and learn about careers in medicine.

The main event kicked off at the nearby Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) Student Center, with shuttle buses on hand to bring visitors to WCMC-Q. There, visiting students and parents met with faculty, current students and staff who shared hands-on simulations demonstrating a variety of medical concepts from stalls in the college’s North Hall. This year, there were a total of 20 stalls, with subjects ranging from transplant surgery, anatomy, neurology, pediatrics and research, to physics, chemistry, biology and pathology.

For the first time the event also featured a stall where prospective students could find information about WCMC-Q’s Foundation Program to learn about its content and meet with some of the current students.

English writing, library and admissions faculty and staff were also represented to showcase their activities.

As in previous years, Hamad Medical Corporation and Qatar Diabetes Association were in attendance to offer free health screenings to parents and adult participants.

The hundreds of people at the event had the chance to speak

to faculty, staff and students.

This year’s event brought hundreds of visitors to WCMC-Q to discover the academic programs offered by the college, which has produced 147 doctors since it opened in 2002. Medicine Unlimited concluded at 9pm, shortly after a quiz testing the knowledge the prospective students had learned during the event and a prize raffle were held at the HBKU Student Center.

Dr. Rachid Bendriss, assistant dean for student recruitment, outreach and foundation programs, said: “This is the sixth year we have showcased WCMC-Q’s world-class facilities and programs to the public with the Medicine Unlimited event, which continues to foster the strong relationship between the college and the wider community.

“Medicine Unlimited is a great opportunity for prospective students and their parents to explore the college and interact with our current students, staff and faculty, and it was extremely gratifying to welcome so many people to WCMC-Q this year.”

WCMC-Q awards its graduates a U.S.-accredited M.D. degree, and is the only university outside the United States to do so. In addition to the four-year medical program, the college also offers a two-year pre-medical program.
