Honor for top WCMC-Q students

Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar celebrated another historic milestone in its 10-year history when 29 high achieving pre-medical students were named on the Dean's Honors List at a ceremony on the Hamad Bin Khalifa University campus.

The students who were inducted on to the Dean’s Honor List are Youmna Abdel Ghany, Sara Taha, Basem Ali, Yanal Shaheen, Faryal Malick, Nora Al-Fakhri, Ahmad Salah Sami, Nahel Tunio, Aulia Ahmad, Nourhan Kika, Mountasir El-Tohami, Mhd Salama Chaker, Mu Ji Hwang, Imen Becetti, Hawra Al Lawati, Ayesha Khalid, Ali Al Jabri, Sarah Elsoukkary, Diala Steitieh, Hamza Oglat, Shruthi Suresh, Josia Schlogl, Aya El Jerbi, Elizabeth Boctor, Sarah Kanbour, Lina Irshaid, Anchalia Chandrakumaran, Khalid Taha, Mohammed Sheriff.

High achieving WCMC-Q students who successfully earned a 3.75 GPA or higher in the Fall 2012 term were inducted to the Dean’s Honors List. The event is now an annual fixture of the college’s academic calendar.

WCMC-Q dean, Dr. Javaid Sheikh presented the awards and congratulated the students on their impressive academic achievements. He also encouraged the students to continue to strive for excellence.

“I am delighted to applaud the exceptional performance of these students as they are recognized for this significant academic honor, said Dr. Sheikh.

“The Dean’s Honors List reflects the high caliber of WCMC-Q’s student body and it is a tradition that is becoming firmly entrenched in the college.

“These young men and women have demonstrated an outstanding level of work to achieve this honor and their commitment and talent is inspiring to all at WCMC-Q. We are proud to support them and help them achieve their undoubtedly remarkable potential.”

Speeches were given by Dr. Ravinder Mamtani, associate dean for global and public health, and Dr. Dietrich Büsselberg, assistant dean for student affairs, while WCMC-Q’s assistant professor of writing, Dr. Rodney Sharkey, delivered the keynote address.

Dr. Sharkey said: “As these excellent students continue to excel, they confirm for us the value of hard work, determination, self-belief and the value of a commitment to improving the lives of others. They are to be commended for their sterling efforts.”
