Awards for affiliate faculty members at appreciation dinner

The work, knowledge and professionalism of WCMC-Q’s affiliate faculty members was celebrated recently at the Affiliate Faculty Appreciation Dinner.
The evening was a chance to celebrate the relationship between WCMC-Q faculty and the college’s affiliate faculty, and honor their work
In all the college has 258 affiliates - 247 from HMC, eight from Aspetar and three from Sidra - who are responsible for mentoring and educating WCMC-Q students during their hospital clerkships. The dinner and awards ceremony was an opportunity for the college to show its appreciation for all their work and dedication.

Dr. Javaid Sheikh, dean of WCMC-Q, said: "I do not exaggerate when I say that without our affiliates, our graduates would not be as successful as they are. WCMC-Q is blessed with an experienced and highly regarded faculty but doctors cannot be trained in the classroom alone, they must also be trained in the wards, operating theaters and emergency rooms. It is this which our affiliates do so well and I thank them all for so generously sharing their experience and knowledge with our students."
Three awards were presented in all: Physician Role Model, Education Master, and Research Mentor.
The criteria for the Physician Role Model stated that the winner should be someone who is dedicated to their patients; embraces life-long learning, has excellent relationships within their team, and has respect for the profession and its values. The award was eventually presented to two winners - Dr. Mohsen Eledrisi and Dr. Yahya Zakaria.
The Education Master Award stated that the two winners had to demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching, excellent teaching skills, fair and timely evaluation and feedback, and a keen interest in learners by supporting their success. It was decided that Dr. Khaled Awad and Dr. Adel Zaraa both epitomized these qualities.
The Research Mentor award attracted just one winner – Dr. Adel Naser Elzouki. The panel decided he completely fulfilled the criteria for the award, which were having a history of research ideas, publishing a number of pieces in quality journals, collaborative studies with WCMC-Q faculty and success in involving students in research projects.
