Congratulations To the Class of 2009
WCMC-Q's second match day a success March 2009
The class of 2009, with Interim Dean Dr. Javaid Sheikh and Dr. Maya Hammoud,
at the Match Day celebration. “I applaud the students for their perseverance,
dedication, and hard work that have allowed them to reach this momentous day,"
said Dr. Sheikh.
On March 19 – 'match' day – 15 of the 17-member WCMC-Q Class of 2009 successfully matched to residencies in their chosen specialties. Two students have elected to pursue a year of clinical research before pursuing their residency training.
Residencies are the next step after completing the MD degree for all physicians who wish to pursue graduate clinical training in the US. Final year students in medical schools both within and outside the US go through the process of applying to residency programs, interviewing and then entering the highly competitive 'match' every year. The day the results are announced is a memorable event in the life of any young physician.
