Faculty become working doctors at HMC

Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) hospitals will have ten new doctors on their roster after members of the WCMC-Q faculty were appointed to HMC enabling them to treat patients as well as extend the education of their students from the classroom to the hospital wards.
Congratulating the faculty members Dean of WCMC-Q, Dr. Daniel R. Alonso, said, "It's a win-win for all concerned. The faculty get to practice medicine, the student-teacher relationship moves a step closer to the reality of practicing medicine, and HMC gains the service of doctors with impressive experience in a number of specialties."
The following faculty will spend approximately 20 percent of their time working at HMC hospitals:
Dr. Bruce Davidson, Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs
Dr. Maya Hammoud, Associate Dean of Admissions and Student Affairs
Dr. Nasir Hussain, associate professor of medicine
Dr. Mai Mahmoud, instructor in internal medicine
Dr. Nady Mohamed, assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology
Dr. Bakr Nour, Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery
Dr. Powers Peterson, associate professor of pathology and laboratory medicine
Dr. Ahmad Teebi, professor of pediatrics
Dr. Leopold Streletz, associate professor of neurology
Dr. Amal Khidir, assistant professor of pediatrics

With specialties ranging from deep vein thrombosis, gynecology, endoctrinology, diabetes, organ transplantation and genetics to stroke management, the faculty are set to make an important contribution to healthcare in Qatar.
For third year medical student Amila Husic the appointments mean an opportunity to see and learn from her faculty in action, "It will be interesting to see the faulty in a different setting. Dealing with patients is nothing like working in the classroom. Patient care is more stressful."

Dr. Hammoud, who will work in gynecology at HMC, is thrilled with her appointment and the opportunity it provides to extend the teacher-student interaction, "I'm looking forward to seeing patients with students. WCMC-Q faculty members interact with the students so much here that it's going to be great to work with them in a patient setting."
