Six gold Education Excellence medals and pins have been awarded to WCMC-Q 2007 Foundation Program students for outstanding school academic performances prior to their gaining program places.
A rare platinum award was also presented to another foundation program student.
Students Sharefa Al-Mannai, Aljazy Al Maraghi, Zahra Makki, Kholoud Saleh, Moza Alsulaiti and Sara Al-Suwaidi were among about 80 students receiving gold awards for excellence in their previous studies at high school.
Amna Alkhuzaei was one of only nine students in Qatar to receive the rare platinum award for excellence at high school: "I feel that all my hard work has been recognized and endorsed by the (Qatar) Government and this inspires and strengthens me to work hard towards becoming a doctor and training at Weill Cornell."
"This success is really helpful to our dreams and goal of becoming doctors," says gold award recipient Kholoud.
Foundation Program Director and Senior Lecturer, Dr Imad Makki, represented WCMC-Q in supporting the students at the awards: "I was proud and delighted to see these seven - the highest number of awarded students in all branch campuses in Education City - of our 18 Foundation students recognized for their outstanding achievement in high school. They are very intelligent, committed to excellence, and top achievers - exactly the type of students WCMC-Q is known to attract."
The awards were presented at the annual Education Excellence Day held annually under the patronage of HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. HE Sheikha Ahmed Al Mahmoud, the Minister for Education and Secretary General of the SEC, and president of the Board of Trustees for the EED awards, approved the list that was presented by the evaluation committee.
The ceremony celebrating excellence was held at the Al Wosail Ballroom at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel. Qatar's Prime minister, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim also honored the winners by attending the ceremony.
The students attained their awards and gained places in the WCMC-Q after graduating from the same school and as majors from the same medical class at Al Bayan Educational Complex for Schools - one of Qatar's independent schools.
The school's policy of integrating knowledge prepared them well for the WCMC-Q Foundation Program, they say. Integrating a knowledge-based economy (KBE) and society is part of the Government's policy in diversifying from a dependence on natural resources.
