Iftar marks new chapter for MSEC-Q

Members of the 2005/06 MSEC-Q say ‘goodbye’ by hosting an Iftar
for the WCMC-Q community.
The outgoing 2005/06 Medical Student Executive Council in Qatar (MSEC-Q) hosted an Iftar in October to thank WCMC-Q students, faculty and staff for their contribution over the last year.
MSEC-Q vice president Adam Khader said the social event for breaking the daily fast during the Islamic month of Ramadan was for the entire WCMC-Q community, both Muslims and non-Muslims.
In keeping with tradition, Muslims broke the fast at sunset with dates and water. They went to the prayer rooms for el Maghrib, the sunset prayer, one of the five prayers of the day, and later joined friends for an Arabic buffet.
“For Muslims it was breakfast, for others it might have been an early dinner or a late lunch, the idea was we all had fun,” Khader said.
He said the event was a goodbye from the outgoing MSEC-Q and a chance for members to reflect upon their achievements.
“Student Council evaluation forms were distributed and collected, giving students a chance to provide feedback and suggestions. The information will help guide the Council for 2006/07.
“The general consensus was that MSEC-Q did a good job this year, with the International Evening, Coffee House IV, the opening of a quiet study room, and the installation of an ATM machine and two vending machines around campus as highlights.”

Following the sunset prayer, Iftar is served.
