The MCAT Experience
WCMC-Q students were joined by seven outside candidates as they took the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) on April 17th.
The seven came from as far afield as Cairo and New York City, and one flew in from Bahrain where she is stationed with the U.S. military. Her aim: to move a step nearer to joining medical school in the United States. By contrast, a majority of the outside candidates hope to enter the Medical Program at WCMC-Q, as it opens this fall.
It was an intensive day of tests, beginning at 8:30 in the morning and going on until 6:00 in the evening, with an hour’s break for lunch. Food was provided by the Office of Student Affairs, with Registrar Betty Monfort and her staff taking care that everyone was re-energized, to keep them going through the long afternoon ahead.
Test Supervisor Paula Craig commented on the sense of purpose among the group: "I was impressed with their composure and ability to focus; they were very dedicated to the task."

Maryam Shafaee, WCMC-Q: "The physical sciences passages were much harder than anything I was used to. I finished them, but they were hard." |
Susan Francis, from the U.S., on the verbal reasoning section: "The information you needed was right there, but the analogies that you had to make were a lot more subtle than a lot of the practice exams that I had taken on my own." |
Vildana Omerovic,WCMC-Q, on the verbal reasoning section: "Usually, there are two or three science paragraphs, which are easier to connect to, but not this time. The questions were difficult – a lot of inferences, looking for the meaning behind sentences." |
Hany Shaltout, 5th Year medical student from 6th October University, Egypt: "I’m a little rusty! It’s five years since I last did the physics. ½½A week isn’t enough to prepare for the MCAT. I got the practice exams, the Kaplan comprehensive review guide, the CD,but I’m still quite slow. " |
