JOINING TOGETHER TO PROMOTE HEALTH AND WELL BEING

The Medical Student Executive Council at Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q) in cooperation with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) will hold a special blood donation drive to rally the Education City community to donate blood, and will launch a series of activities to promote awareness of the dangers of smoking, on Thursday February 26, 2004.

The students at Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar are proud to engage with HMC in such worthy endeavors which reflect their strong community bonding in coming together to help those in need and promote good health.

In an effort to ensure sufficient collection of safe blood for the daily transfusion needs of the patients in the Hamad Hospital, the HMC is providing a bloodmobile which will be stationed at the main entrance of the Weill Cornell Medical College building from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Donors from outside Education City are welcome.

The HMC would also like to take this opportunity to reassure blood donors that precautionary measures have been implemented to ensure continued safety of the blood donation process. All personnel involved in blood collection, medical and supporting staff, maintain very high levels of hygiene to ensure blood safety and donor safety.

The Anti-Smoking Campaign is designed to raise awareness among the community in Education City about the dangers of smoking. Activities planned for Thursdayęs launch include lectures by medical practitioners from the HMC, and a short play created and performed by WCMC-Q students before an invited audience from the institutions and centers in Education City.

This activity is organized through the newly formed community services committee of the WCMC-Qęs Medical Student Executive Council. The committeeęs goal is to develop a program of voluntary service in the community in Qatar.
