This year’s Healing Hands essay competition has been launched by Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar.

The annual contest is designed to inspire Qatari high school students to follow a career in medicine, and offers four week-long, fully funded summer scholarships to study in the world-class biomedical research laboratories at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City as prizes. In addition, the four winners spend a week at Cornell University in Ithaca in upstate New York to provide them with a more varied view of student life. This section of the trip is designed to give the students an idea of what it is like to study for an undergraduate degree and to acquaint them with Cornell as an institution.

Entrants to the competition must submit an 800-word essay on the theme ‘Application of artificial intelligence in medical practice in Qatar: Opportunities and challenges’.
Entrants need to explore some of the issues related to the use of artificial intelligence in medical practice and healthcare settings in Qatar. Applicants should also include a two to three-minute presentation illustrating their main ideas.

The competition is open to Qatari nationals currently enrolled in high schools or pre-college programs. The presentation should be no more than three slides and the essay must be an original work and written in English. The deadline for submissions is April 5.
