Muhammad A. Shakir is a fourth year medical student at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q). After obtaining his Bachelor of Medical Sciences degree (with honours) at Western University in Canada where he was involved in research pertaining to healthcare policy, he joined WCM-Q in 2013 to pursue his Doctor of Medicine degree.
While at WCM-Q, he has been extensively involved with the Global and Public Health department, participating in service and research trips to Costa Rica as well as to Weill Bugando in Mwanza, Tanzania where he spent two months performing research into Malaria and HIV in the pediatric population. He has served as the president and now senior advisor to the Global and Public Health student interest group at WCM-Q where he spearheaded numerous projects to raise awareness, funds, and facilitate student career development in Global and Public Health. He has also previously served as the Class President and member of the Basic Science Curriculum Committee at WCM-Q. He currently serves on the Admissions Committee for the medical program as well as on the Internal Medicine student interest group.
After completion of his medical degree this year, he plans to pursue a residency in Internal Medicine in the US. Later in his career, he hopes to be an academic clinician undertaking advocacy and research into global and public health.
