Dr. Arthur Hengerer

Dr. Hengerer has practiced Otolaryngology since 1974, including 27 years as the Chair of Otolaryngology at the University of Rochester. Appointed to the NY Board of Professional Medical Conduct in 2002, he became Chair in 2012 and is currently serving a 2nd term in this capacity. His FSMB activities include, but are not limited, to serving on the Audit, Bylaws, Finance, Nominating, Awards, Governance, and Planning Committees and multiple workgroups, as well as a two-term chairmanship of the Ethics and Professionalism Committee.

He is currently chair of the Education, Executive, Investment and Compensation Committees and is chair of the Workgroup on Physician Wellness and Burnout. Dr. Hengerer also serves on the FSMB Foundation Board of Directors. He has been a member of the NY State Medical Society and serves as a representative of the Advisory Board of the NBME. A member of the Academy of Otolaryngology, he has served as a Delegate to the Academy’s Board of Governors and has been active in various subspecialty societies as well as served on many committees and task forces. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology and is the author of numerous articles and book chapters. He received his bachelor’s degree from Westminster College and his MD from Albany Medical College.
