Shahrad Taheri, MBBS, PhD, FRCP
Professor Shahrad Taheri is an internationally recognized clinical expert and researcher in obesity. He is a member of Qatar’s National Diabetes Strategy Committee, chairs a research sub-committee at the Ministry of Public Health, and has contributed to several of Qatar’s National Guidelines, including those for obesity. Professor Taheri is also a member of the Clinical Care Committee of the World Obesity Federation and the editor-in-chief of Clinical Obesity, the prime clinical obesity journal of the World Obesity Federation.
He has over 200 publications and has won several awards for his research and clinical care. Professor Taheri’s research was one of the first to demonstrate that sleep duration was associated with obesity. His internationally acclaimed research in Qatar, and the first clinical trial aimed at reversing diabetes in the Middle East, showed that it was possible to reverse type 2 diabetes in a significant number of patients through intensive lifestyle intervention.
Professor Taheri is a graduate of the University of Oxford. He also graduated with honors in medicine from the University of London, obtained his Ph.D. from Imperial College London, and completed his post-doctoral research training at Stanford University.
