Abdul Badi Abou-Samra, MD, PhD
Dr. Abdul Abou-Samra is an academic M.D./Ph.D. physician scientist certified in internal medicine and endocrinology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Abou-Samra worked at several international academic institutions, which include Lyon I University, France; the National Institute of Health, Maryland; Harvard Medical School; Massachusetts General Hospital; and the Wayne State University School of Medicine, where he was professor of medicine, professor of physiology and professor of molecular genetics, chief of the endocrine division, director of the endocrinology fellowship program, and director of a T32 endocrine research training program.
Dr. Abou-Samra received multiple recognitions for his scientific contributions and regularly led research projects funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) between 1986 and 2014. He has served as a member of the NIH endocrine study section and member of the editorial board for several international journals.
Dr. Abou-Samra joined Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) in 2013 and currently serves as the director of the Qatar Metabolic Institute (QMI), deputy chief medical officer, and chief quality officer. He is also chair of the National Taskforce on Obesity and co-chair of the National Diabetes Committee, Ministry of Public Health (MoPH).
Dr. Abou-Samra has contributed to over 270 publications and five US patents; his h-index is 67 on Google Scholar.
