Prof. Ahmed Awaisu is a Professor of Clinical Pharmacy & Practice. He is currently the Head of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Practice in the College of Pharmacy at Qatar University. Prof. Awaisu graduated with a bachelor of pharmacy degree from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Nigeria in 1999. He obtained his master’s and Ph.D. degrees in clinical pharmacy from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in 2004 and 2009, respectively. His research interests include outcome-based research, pharmacoepidemiology and medication safety, pharmacy education, and health promotion. Prof. Awaisu has previous clinical practice experience in providing medication management services in the hospital setting. 

Since 2011, Prof. Awaisu has established a research niche in the area of medication-use optimization, with support from Qatar University and Qatar National Research Fund. He has also been involved in mentoring Ph.D., MSc, and undergraduate research projects related to prescribing/deprescribing, medication adherence, medication safety, quality of life, and other health-related outcomes research. To date, he has successfully supervised about 30 MSc and Ph.D. students internationally (from Qatar University, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Robert Gordon University in the UK, and the University of Auckland, New Zealand.

To date, Prof. Awaisu has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications in international journals. His current (April 2024) Google Scholar Citation h-index is 38, i10-index (117), and Scopus h-index is 26.

Prof. Awaisu is the former Chair of the Qatar University IRB and the former Associate Editor Value in Health Regional Issue. He was also the section editor (Clinical Pharmacy) for the Elsevier-published textbook entitled Encyclopedia of Pharmacy Practice and Clinical Pharmacy. In addition, he is the editor of a textbook currently being written, entitled Health Literacy in Medicines Use and Pharmacy: A Definitive Guide.
