Background:
Promote communication and collaboration among Health Care Providers (HCPs) in a busy clinical environment is paramount. Effective communication is associated with better patient care, less medical errors, increased teamwork & job satisfaction. Such collaboration is challenging and often requires unplanned communication among busy healthcare providers. Differences in training, communication styles and multi-cultural background of nurses and physicians contributes to communication problems.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the workshop participants will be able to:
• Highlight the importance of effective multicultural healthcare communication & collaboration among (HCPs) working in one system
• Identify challenges and barriers to promoting communication in a multicultural clinical work arena
• Use different practical communication tools and strategies to promote such collaboration.
Presentation Flow:
In the Introduction: significance of communication and team collaborations among (HCPs) in a multicultural healthcare environment then we will share discussion and put a plan together for known challenges faced or perceived. Followed by discussions and reflections on video-clips of different communication gaps in the clinical workplace. Then identify barriers to implement effective communication in culturally diverse healthcare environments. Finally, share different tool and strategies to support communication and team collaboration.
BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Manasik is a General Pediatric Consultant at Hamad General Hospital (HGH), Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) since 2011. She is also an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatric at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) and Qatar university-medical college. Dr. Manasik received her medical training at Gezira University, Sudan. Her areas of practice and interest include inpatient medicine, participating in designing and conducting clinical research, teaching, and supervising residents during their residency, putting great effort in clinical and academic researchers and quality improvement projects in paediatric programs and as of that she is currently appointed as physician lead of HGH general paediatric quality improvement and patient’s safety. She has a wide variety of accepted abstracts and has presented workshops in multiple international conferences. She is an instructor of a different educational committee including communication, simulation, quality and safety.
