Dr. Alan S. Weber, PhD, has taught the Medical Humanities and Healthcare Communication at Weill Cornell Medicine in Qatar for the past fourteen years. Previously, Dr. Weber worked in Public Relations for MPPC Scientific Publishers, as a Technical Writer at the robotics company Universal Instruments, Inc., and taught Technical Communications at the Pennsylvania State University. He also served as the Managing Editor of the history of science journal Isis (Chicago UP) at Cornell University where he taught in the English Department and served as a research fellow in the Science and Technology Studies department. Additionally, Dr. Weber has designed and delivered health communications courses at the Premedical level at Weill Cornell Medicine in Qatar, and he wrote and implemented the communications curriculum for The Biomedical Research Training Program for Nationals at WCM-Q. His research includes baseline studies in provider-patient relations in the Arabian Gulf, Islamic medical ethics, Internet health websites, e-learning in medical education, and other humanistic topics in healthcare. His research on Internet health sites in the GCC won a Qatar National Research Fund award for best UREP research project. In 2018, he was elected as Qatar’s National Representative to the International Association of Communication in Healthcare. He was also the lead organizer of The 1st International Conference on Medical Humanities in the Middle East held in Doha, Qatar in November, 2018.
