Mark Santos is the Clinical Nurse/Midwife Specialist of Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital. He is currently the Secretary of the Advanced Nursing and Midwifery Practice Network of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC). He joined HMC in 2007 as an Emergency Nurse. In the same year, He was promoted to the position of Trauma Nurse/Database Analyst in the Trauma Surgery Department, which he held for six years. He was then promoted as Stroke Patient Pathway Coordinator in the Neuroscience Institute, Academic Health System, HMC, a position he held for five years.

Nurse Santos holds a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree major in Industrial Education Management from the Technological University of the Philippines (2017), a Master of Arts in Nursing major in Nursing Administration (2011) from the Philippine Women’s University, a Professional Master’s in Nursing major in Medical Surgical (2003), and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (2001) from Western Mindanao State University. He is a Clinical Nurse Specialist (Medical Surgical), licensed by Qatar Council for Healthcare Professionals (QCHP), Ministry of Public Health, Qatar (2019). He is also a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist, by the Mayo Clinic (2015) and a Stroke Certified Registered Nurse (SCRN), by the American Board of Neuroscience Nursing (2014).

Nurse Santos is both a registered nurse and a licensed professional teacher, titles bestowed by the Professional Regulation Commission of the Philippines. Prior to joining HMC, he served as a Staff Nurse at Western Mindanao Medical Center and then as a Clinical Instructor at College of Nursing, Western Mindanao State University. He then served as a Staff Nurse at Al Noor Hospital, Makkah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and then as a Clinical Instructor at the College of Nursing, RTRMS-Makati Medical Center, Philippines. At the Neuroscience Institute, he volunteered to lead the stroke education program for the benefit of the public, fellow professionals and patients.

Nurse Santos’ key contribution is related to the coordination of stroke care at the hospital and at national level. He has participated in numerous international conferences in stroke care in United Arab Emirates, Thailand, the Philippines, India, Indonesia and Malaysia. His involvement in research, as an emerging interest, led him to coordinate and collaborative efforts between Thailand and the Philippines. He has also made important contributions to the welfare of the Filipino nurses in Qatar since 2008 through his work with the Philippine Nurses Association – Qatar, becoming President of the organization in 2016. He was the President-Elect of Association of Filipino Nurse Researchers in Qatar. He is also the Honorary Ambassador of the Critical Care Nurses Association of the Philippines Incorporated. Nurse Mark Santos is the Country Representative of Qatar to the Filipino Nursing Diaspora Network based in Australia.
