Dr. Sathya Doraiswamy is the United Nations Population Fund Country Representative in the Islamic Republic of Iran. He has over 20 years of experience in academia, government, NGOs, and in the United Nations. Until recently, he was the Assistant Director of the Institute for Population Health (IPH) at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar. Dr. Doraiswamy has worked in Asia, sub-Saharan Africa and Europe with several governmental and non-governmental organizations, including the United Nations. He has considerable experience in teaching and in public health research, as well as expertise in supporting humanitarian public health responses for populations affected by conflict and natural disasters. His special interests include refugee health, sexual and reproductive health, and strengthening health systems, particularly in fragile settings. Dr. Doraiswamy’s work has been published in peer reviewed journals and presented at several global conferences. He still participates in teaching, research, community awareness programs and other population health activities advanced by the IPH.

Dr. Sathya Doraiswamy is a medical doctor, with Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), and Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Community Medicine degrees from Chennai, India and a professional doctorate from the University of Bath, United Kingdom. He is board certified in public health and also a certified lifestyle medicine physician. He has also received additional diplomas in applied population research, applied statistics and human resource management.
