Shazli Azmi is a Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Manchester. She studied medicine at the University of Manchester where she graduated in 2005. She completed specialist training in Diabetes and Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine in the North West Deanery in 2018. She went on to obtain a PhD from the University of Manchester University in 2017. Her thesis focused on longitudinal studies in metabolic neuropathies and development of imaging biomarkers.

Dr Azmi has a specialist clinical interest in the management of complex type 2 diabetes and micro/macrovascular complications. Her research interest is in diabetic neuropathy, small fibre neuropathy and neuropathic pain. Her previous work detailed metabolic and neuropathy phenotyping in subjects with obesity, impaired glucose tolerance and diabetes mellitus and the development of a surrogate marker for neuropathy. Dr Azmi's current research is primarily focused on surrogate end points for human diabetic neuropathy and other peripheral neuropathies. She has >50 peer reviewed publications and is currently co-supervisor for 2 PhD students. She on the editorial board for Clinical Therapeutics and Diabetes Therapy.
