Prof. Üçeyler studied Medicine at the Medical School of the University of Würzburg, Germany and received her medical license in 2002. 1999-2003 she completed her doctoral thesis at the Department of Internal Medicine and started her professional career at the Department of Neurology in 2003. In 2008 she received her licence for Neurophysiology and spent three months as guest scientist at Yale University (Prof. S. Waxman`s lab). In 2009, she received her board certification as Neurologist and in 2014 as Pain Specialist. In 2010 she completed her “Habilitation” for Neurology (i.e. German qualification for professorship) and became Professor of Neurology in 2016. In 2017 she completed her studies as “Master of Health Business Administration, MHBA”. Since 2018, she is a Heisenberg-Professor for “Translational Somatosensorics”. In 2019 she was elected Vice Dean of the Medical Faculty, University of Würzburg. In 2010 she received the EFIC Grünenthal award and in 2014 the award of the Sertürner-Society for outstanding pain research. In her lab, Prof. Üçeyler is performing translational research linking clinics and basic science on the pathophysiology of neuropathic pain, generalized pain disorders, and peripheral neuropathies and small fiber pathology. She is an Academic Editor of PlosOne and Section Editor of Pain Reports.
