Corneal Confocal Microscopy: a Surrogate Endpoint for Neurodegeneration in Clinical Trials

Adnan Khan, PhD

Adnan Khan

Research Associate in Medicine
Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar

Dr. Khan received his PhD under supervision of Professor Nathan Efron and Professor David A Atchison from Queensland University of Technology, Australia. Later, he joined Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar with Professor Rayaz A Malik. In the last four years, his research has been focused on the application of corneal confocal microscopy and optical coherence tomography to study nerve degeneration and regeneration in neurological conditions (e.g. stroke, multiple sclerosis, diabetic neuropathy, Charcot neuroarthropathy). Last year, he received Paul Dudley White International Scholar Award from American Heart Association for his work on corneal confocal microscopy and stroke. He developed along with his team the idea to study the alteration of nerves in children with autism spectrum disorder using corneal confocal microscopy and got funding from Autism Research Institute, USA.
