Research Internships for National College Students

The Research Internships for National College Students at Weill Cornell Medicine–Qatar (WCM-Q) offer young ambitious researchers aged 18 years and above the opportunity to spend their time learning about Biomedical Research in a challenging and dynamic research environment. This program is for students who are associated with a college.

The programs are divided into two main components:

A. Biomedical Research Management Essentials

The Biomedical Research Management Essentials component consists of several modules aimed to give interns an introduction to Biomedical Research. This component aims to provide college students with the background information that would support them during the Biomedical Research Practical Training component of the program. Below is a list of the different modules included in this component:
  • Research Operation
  • Laboratory Management
  • Grants Management
  • Research Integrity
  • Clinical Research Management
  • Professional skills

B. Biomedical Research Management Practical Training

The practical training gives interns insight into a real employee’s life. Trainees are expected to apply hands-on knowledge gained during the Biomedical Research Management Essentials component of the program during their practical training. This component aims to help interns experience training in an actual research environment.

The period of the practical training depends on the program the intern chooses from below:

downYear-Round Research Internship
Interns should attend 2-3 one-hour sessions per week at WCM-Q. Interns are expected to take the lead in scheduling their sessions. If the trainee fails to attend a session, he/she will have another session scheduled. However, all interns must complete the Biomedical Research Management Essentials component of the program within one academic semester.

After completing the training sessions, the program interns will be eligible to attend 4 continuous weeks of practical training in WCM-Q. Interns choose the start and end date for their training, after ensuring that the dates do not overlap with their college’s schedule. All interns must complete both modules within one academic year to receive a certificate of completion.

Interns who complete both components of this internship receive a certificate of completion for the Year-round Research Internship Program, and a stipend.

downIntensive Research Internship
Interns have the option to choose between 4 or 8 continuous weeks from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, every day. In this intensive training, trainees will be exposed to theoretical and practical training. The program aims to challenge trainees by holding them responsible for balancing their training sessions and their practical training’s daily tasks and projects.

At the end of this program, interns receive a certificate of completion for the Intensive Research Internship Program, and a stipend.
