Collaborating with Other Institutions

When a WCM-Q Principal Investigator (PI) collaborates with other Institutions, the PI will also need to follow the compliance requirements of the Collaborating Institution (CI).

If collaborators include WCM-NY, refer to Collaborating with WCM-NY

The WCM-Q PI must coordinate directly with the CI to confirm current requirements for approval and oversight at Institutions other than WCM-Q.

If the WCM-Q PI collaborates with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), the PI must coordinate with a co-investigator at HMC to confirm current Hospital Committee and MRC requirements.

For research protocols that involve activities that require IBC or IACUC oversight: Submission, review and approval for each location may be required as appropriate to the research.

Other documentation of site specific training, risk assessment or exemption may also be needed to secure funding or to demonstrate compliance.

If the WCM-Q PI collaborates with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), the PI must coordinate with a co-investigator at HMC to confirm current Hospital Committee and MRC requirements.

For research involving collaborations with other sites, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) may require that the Institution(s) register with the MoPH before research can commence. This is usually accomplished by a MoPH IRB Assurance for the Protection of Human Subjects involved in Research or other types of MoPH registrations associated with specific types of research activities.

Approvals are usually granted for only 1 year, so if an Institution already has an MoPH IRB Assurance or otherwise is registered with MoPH, the approval or registration may need to be renewed.

Refer to the MoPH website for current information.

For any questions regarding MoPH requirements contact the WCM-Q IRB Office.

Documenting Oversight Requirements for Collaborative Research

The WCM-Q PI is responsible for managing the identification of requisite approvals to fulfill compliance requirements for a research protocol; this includes any activities conducted by Collaborating Investigators and Institutions as appropriate for each location.

Documentation and maintenance of such records are the responsibility of the WCM-Q PI and may be required before awarded grants or other funds can be released.
