Proteomics

The Proteomics core provides services and support to assist investigators within WCM-Q and other institutions in Qatar or abroad, in addressing and solving the peptide and protein-based challenges inherent to their research fields. Besides pure analytical capabilities, the core also offers additional services, including technological consultation, experimental design optimization, custom sample preparation/analysis method development, as well as high end custom data analytical solutions enterprise software- GeneData.

Facilities

The proteomics core facility is equipped with high resolution quadrupole Orbitrap mass spectrometers (Q-Exactive series, Thermo Scientific) coupled to nano-scale ultra-performance liquid chromatography systems suitable for both exploratory and targeted investigations. Additionally, two nano- to micro-scale high performance liquid chromatography systems equipped with multi wavelength UV detectors and fraction collectors are employed for various sample preparation work-flows: multidimensional separation, post translational modification enrichment, etc...

Alongside the mass spectrometry-based resources, the proteomics core is the first research core laboratory in the Middle East to obtain certification from Olink Proteomics as a service provider apart from the twelve other centers worldwide (link to WCM-Q website news). The Olink™ assay, uses the Proximity Extension Assay (PEA) technology to detect protein biomarkers designed in 14 human proteomics panels across a wide range of concentrations in small volumes (1 uL) of various biological sample types including plasma and serum. This assay is run in 96-well format which includes internal and external control samples.
