Advocate of diabetic neuropathy research in the MENA region & corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) as a diagnostic biomarker for neuropathies. My current research focuses on detection of axonal loss in the eyes by CCM as a potential path to early diagnosis of dementia in relation to cognitive decline and brain volumetric loss. I am involved in the study to establish the prevalence of diabetic neuropathy and its risk factors in Qatar and in other countries in the MENA region
I have previously involved in studies to detect nerve damage caused by diabetes, Parkinson's disease and chemotherapy, and interventional studies showing an improvement in neuropathy caused by pancreas and kidney transplantation, bariatric surgery and insulin pump.
