Pathogenesis, assessment and treatment of diabetic and other peripheral neuropathies and central neurodegenerative disorders.

Ioannis Petropoulos
Ioannis Petropoulos, BSc, MSc, PhD
Research Associate in Medicine

I am a clinical scientist specialising in ophthalmic and neural complications of diabetes. My past and current research focuses on the use of corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) as a surrogate endpoint of diabetic and other neuropathies and has also led to the development of a novel, fully-automated image analysis algorithm. My current focus is on CCM in multiple sclerosis.

Georgios Ponirakis
Georgios Ponirakis, BSc, MSc, MPhil.
Clinical Researcher in Medicine

I have utilized corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) to assess neurodegeneration and nerve repair in interventional studies in diabetic peripheral neuropathy. I am currently evaluating the diagnostic performance of CCM as an ophthalmic biomarker for dementia, delirium and schizophrenia.

Adnan Khan
Adnan Khan, Cert. Ophth. PhD
Research Associate in Medicine

I am a clinical scientist with an interest to develop novel ophthalmic techniques to better understand neurodegenerative diseases. My current research focuses on the application of corneal confocal microscopy to identify patients with minor stroke who are at high risk of developing a major ischemic stroke.

Hoda Gad
Hoda Gad, MSc (CPIPP)
Clinical Researcher and PhD candidate

I investigate the use of corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) in the pediatric population at Sidra Medicine, Qatar. I hold a master’s degree in Clinical Pharmacy International Practice and Policy from University College London, London, UK. I have co-authored several publications on neuropathy and CCM.
