Dr. Mahnaz Mousavi is the Director of the Student Wellness & Counseling Center at Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar, having established the Center in 2006. She earned her PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio, USA and maintains a license in District of Columba, USA. Throughout her doctoral training, she gained counseling experience in community mental health centers, child guidance centers, and university counseling centers. Prior to that, she earned her master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Iran University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran and was a faculty and a researcher in a medical university and practiced in the university clinic. She has also earned a postdoctoral master’s degree in Clinical Psychopharmacology from the California School of Professional Psychology in California, USA and is BCIA Board Certified in General Biofeedback. Prior to coming to Qatar to work for Georgetown University, she worked for the counseling center at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. She is an integrationist in her approach and has interest in working with university students in the past 14 years. Some of her other areas of interest include crisis intervention, childhood abuse, trauma, psychological assessment, mindfulness, and biofeedback. 

Dr. Mousavi has published a book on childhood abuse in Iran, has published research in peer-reviewed journals, and regularly presents at conferences. Lately, many of her contributions focus on multicultural counseling and counseling university students.
