Professor Alexei Tepikin completed his undergraduate education at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Faculty of Physical Chemistry, graduating in 1984. He then completed his postgraduate education at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and the A.A. Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology in Kiev, Ukraine and received his PhD in 1988.

Professor Tepikin then held postdoctoral associate positions at the Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology (1988-1990) and the University of Liverpool, UK (1990-1992). He subsequently became an established member of the faculty at the University of Liverpool, where he has remained ever since. Professor Tepikin’s research interests include: cell signaling mechanisms in pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer; Ca2+ signaling, bioenergetics and cell physiology; interacting second messenger cascades (Ca2+, cAMP and ROS); and development of optical techniques and applications for optical techniques to cell biology.

Professor Tepikin’s laboratory is currently funded by the Medical Research Council of the UK and the Wellcome Trust. Further information about his research, publications, roles in the scientific community and administrative experience can be found at https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/translational-medicine/staff/alexey-tepikin/
