Laeth Nasir, MBBS, is a Professor of Family Medicine and Associate Dean for Community at Creighton University School of Medicine. He is currently a William J Fulbright Visiting Professor at the University of Jordan. He is also Affiliate Faculty at the Creighton University Department of Anthropology. He has been studying, writing and lecturing internationally on psychosocial aspects of health in Arab countries for the past 20 years. He has clinical and practical experience in primary care health both in the US and the Middle East. He has also served in leadership positions in the US, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates. Dr. Nasir serves as an editor of Taylors’ Principles and Practice of Family Medicine, a two-volume textbook published by Springer, which is a standard reference text for Family Physicians worldwide. His medical textbook, Caring for Arab Patients, a Biopsychosocial Approach, is the only text of its kind that explores the scientific data on medically related subjects in Arab countries, that includes gender and sexuality, domestic violence, mental health and other topics that have important bearing on health in Arab countries.
