Dr. Verjee, an Associate Professor of Family Medicine in Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine - Qatar (WCM-Q), is the Assistant Dean for Medical Student Affairs, and the Co-Director of the Primary Care (Family Medicine) Clerkship. He is involved in academic research as well as family practice in Qatar. Appointed in 2007, he is the inaugural Director of the WCM-Q’s Primary Care Clerkship, and also led the Clinical Skills Center (CSC) for six years as its director until 2013. With respect to the humanities in medicine, he has pursued narrative medicine interests with reflective writing for many years. Regarding excellent communication and interpersonal skills as essential assets, he has fostered WCM-Q training programs to teach empathy and an understanding of medicine through music and the arts.

Dr. Verjee qualified BSc (Honors) in Biochemistry at the University of Dundee, Scotland, where he also obtained his MBChB medical degree. He started to teach medical students at Oxford University, England in 1990. In 1994, he moved to Newfoundland and Labrador, and then settled in Alberta, Canada in 1994. Board certified (CCFP) in family medicine from the College of Family Physicians of Canada in 2004, he was appointed a Fellow of the College (FCFP) in 2014. He completed his MBA (Leadership & Sustainability) in 2015. At his universities and at his teaching practices, he has taught an expanded cohort of medical students, family medicine residents, and nurse practitioners. Formerly, he was closely involved with training, mentorship, and reintegrating foreign medical graduates into the Canadian medical system. He was appointed the Director, Family Medicine Clerkship, University of Calgary, in 2003. Dr. Verjee is an alumnus of the Harvard Macy Institute in Boston, Massachusetts, and has presented at TEDx. He was appointed a Senior Research Fellow at BCMHR-CU at Clare College, Cambridge, England in 2017.

Awarded Excellence in Teaching Awards at WCM-Q, and Holder of several Gold Star teaching awards at Calgary, he has gained family medicine recognition for achievement and excellence from the College of Family Physicians of Canada. His clinical interests include community obstetrics and gynecology, pediatric surveillance, vaccinations, cardiology, rheumatology, inflammatory bowel disorders, glaucoma, diabetes mellitus, thyroid disorders, procedures in family practice, interprofessional education, communication skills, and narrative medicine. He is a keen musician, learns history from the study of Islamic coins, and still enjoys a game of squash.
