Maryam Ferdousi, BSc Optom (Hons), MSc, PhD
Dr Ferdousi is a research fellow scientist with extensive clinical research experience in the assessment of cardiovascular complications in diabetes, obesity and hyperlipidaemia with particular expertise in peripheral neuropathy. She completed her PhD on microvascular complication of diabetes in 2016 from the University of Manchester and under the supervision of Professor Rayaz Malik. After completion of her PhD, she has continued to work as a post-doc at the University of Manchester focused on identifying the impact of obesity on neuropathy and the effect of interventions such as simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplantation, bariatric surgery and PCSK9 inhibitor therapy in subjects with obesity and familial hypercholesterolemia. Her work has led to many publications. She has also presented at multiple national and international conferences, and developed a strong national and international collaborative network. She has extensive experience in training scientists and mentoring/supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students.
