Dan Ziegler, MD, FRCPE, is Deputy Director, Research Group Leader and Professor of Internal Medicine at the Institute for Clinical Diabetology, German Diabetes Center, Leibniz Center for Diabetes Research at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf, Germany. He is also a consultant physician at the Division of Endocrinology and Diabetology, University Hospital, Heinrich Heine University. His main research interests include diabetic polyneuropathy, neuropathic pain, and cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy. He has published more than 300 original articles, reviews and book chapters and is editor of a Textbook of Diabetic Neuropathy and has previously chaired the Diabetic Neuropathy Study Group of the EASD (NEURODIAB). Dan Ziegler has been involved in the development of several sets of clinical guidelines on diabetic neuropathy and neuropathic pain including those from the American Diabetes Association and German Diabetes Association and is a member of the WHO Committee on the Definition, Diagnosis and Classification of the Complications of Diabetes Mellitus. He has received several awards for his work including the Camillo Golgi Prize of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) and an Honorary Doctorate of the Medical Faculty of University of Thrace in Alexandroupolis, Greece and is honorary member of the Hungarian, Argentinian, Latin American Diabetes Association
