Students may even be able to perform appropriate procedures under supervision. Special emphasis will be placed on issues related to diagnosis and management of children with chronic or life-threatening conditions. A culturally sensitive approach to the breaking of bad news and support of families in distress will also be emphasized. Students will attend rounds and other conferences with the house staff. Students will be evaluated on the following: 1) Professional characteristics (appropriate attire, demeanor on rounds, with colleagues, with parents), and 2) Clinical skills (fund of knowledge appropriate to level of training, history taking, physical examination, identification of active clinical problems, use of the laboratory and imaging services, and development of a clinical plan).
