Student will spend three weeks in out patient and one week combined outpatient and inpatient. Dr Zirie will assign consultant/s at the beginning of the rotation. The clinics are: 1. Diabetes 2. General Endocrine and 3. Pregnant (Gestational diabetes). The inpatient consultations mainly for pre-op management for diabetes.
General goals and objectives for the rotation are:
- students will be exposed to (or be comfortable) with
- diagnosis of diabetes, type I and II
- management principles for DM I, II and Gestational
- Diagnosis and management of common thyroid disorders
- Clinical presentations, diagnosis and management of Prolactin Disorders
- Etiology and management of Hirsutism and POD
- Obesity
- Adrenal disorders and some pituitary disorders (Not common)
Students also are expected to attend endocrine didactic every Thursday afternoon from 12:30-3:00 PM (starts in October). Usually it includes case presentation, JC and Discussion of guidelines or any topics. They are also expected to attend resident Didactics (for residents on endocrine rotation).
