Description

This two or four-week elective involves mainly Outpatient Allergy and immunology clinic as well as outpatient specialized allergy laboratory. There are didactic lectures, conferences and multidisciplinary rounds that the students must attend. Evaluation is based on supervising faculty feedback. Objectives during the elective include:

1- To conduct comprehensive and detailed History for pediatric, adolescent and adult patient present with Allergic and or Immunological conditions and performing a Physical Examination appropriate to the specialty.

2- To select, perform and interpret multiple lab test and radiography and other modalities special in the allergy service including pulmonary function testing, skin prick and intradermal testing, immunotherapy and drug and food challenges. In addition, students will be exposed to IV Immunoglobulin (IVIG) administration service in our unit.

3- To design appropriate management plan personalized to each patient with allergy and/ or immunodeficiency condition.

4- To coordinate the care of Allergy/ immunology patients including the use of consultation and effective interaction with faculty members, peers and support staff. To participate in interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient safety.

5- To understand complex disease relationships and mechanisms and to incorporate feedback and identify strengths, deficiencies and limits in self knowledge.

6- To demonstrate awareness and accommodation to circumstances affecting patient care including financial and social factors.

7- To set learning and improvement goals in a manner that fosters productive self-directed learning. To actively participate in quality improvement project(s) and to exhibit ethical and responsible behavior, including respect, compassion, honesty and integrity in all aspects of practice and scholarly activity.
