This elective is designed to give interested students further exposure to the assessment and treatment of patients with psychoses, notably schizophrenia and bipolar affective disorder (major depression and mania). The student will participate in the evaluation and management of his/her own caseload under supervision, will take part in daily rounds and discussions and contribute to seminars and teaching rounds. The student will also have the opportunity to familiarize himself/herself with common psychotropic medications and observe the administration of special treatment modalities such as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).
