WCM-Q alumna awarded trustee post at the American Psychiatric Association

Dr. Rana Elmaghraby

Class of 2016
Specialty: Psychiatry
Fellow at Mayo Clinic for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

Dr. Rana Elmaghraby, a 2016 WCM-Q graduate, has been elected as resident-fellow trustee-elect of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) following a national vote.

In her new role she aims to, “…serve as the voice of resident and fellow psychiatrists, particularly in the realm of trainee wellbeing, and to serve as an advocate for people living with mental illness.” Being involved at such a high level has always been an ambition of hers, and having being interested in the APA during her years as a medical student, she has always anticipated that this is where change stems from.

During her tenure Dr. Elmaghraby will serve for one year without a vote on the Board of Trustees, the governing body of APA. Following a year’s service, she will advance to the position of resident-fellow member trustee and will serve on the board for one year with voting privileges.

The APA, which is headquartered in Washington, DC, is considered the main professional organization for psychiatrists and trainee psychiatrists. With over 37,000 members it is regarded as the largest professional psychiatric organization in the world and is considered the world’s leading international psychiatric organization, with members practicing in more than 100 countries.
