Ziad Kronfol, MD joined the faculty of Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar as Director of Psychiatry Clerkship in September 2007. He previously was Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Psychoimmunology Program at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Dr Kronfol is also Vice-President for West Asia of the Asian Federation of Psychiatric Associations and Associate Editor of the Asian Journal of Psychiatry. He is a member of several national and international scientific societies and Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
Dr Kronfol is internationally known for his pioneering work in the field of psychoneuroimmunology. He is among the first to report on immunological changes in patients with major depression. He later continued his exploration of endocrine-immune interactions in patients with affective disorders and patients with Cushing’s syndrome. More recently, Dr Kronfol and colleagues have been studying mood changes associated with the use of interferon treatment in patients with hepatitis C and changes in plasma levels of interleukin-6 in association with the stress of major cardiac surgery. Dr Kronfol has published over 90 scientific articles and more than 100 abstracts in proceedings of scientific meetings. He has received funding from the National Institute of Health, the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Affective Disorders and the Qatar National Research Fund. He is featured on the ISI Web of Knowledge list of most cited researchers.
