Jassim Al Suwaidi, M.B.Ch.B., B.A.O., L.R.C.P.&S.I.(Honors) studied medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland during which he received multiple awards including: the Evatt Memorial Medal First Place, Anatomy; Stoney Memorial Medal First Place, Anatomy; Silver Medal First Place Psychology; Silver Medal First Place Pathology; and Quinn Prize First Place Ophthalmology; he graduated with honors degrees, with the Donnell Prize in Surgery, in 1991.
Dr. Al Suwaidi pursued his postgraduate studies at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, Rochester, MN, USA between 1993 and 2000, where he completed internal medicine, cardiovascular diseases and interventional cardiology training, and subsequently became American Board Certified in these specialties. He was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award in Cardiovascular Diseases at the Mayo Clinic in 2000.
Dr. Al Suwaidi academic pursuits were focused initially on coronary endothelial function and intervention, and he published more than 25 articles in some of the most prestigious cardiology and internal medicine journals when he was a fellow at the Mayo Clinic.
Since joining Hamad Medical Corporation in 2000, he has continued his interest in cardiovascular research, which has included cardiovascular epidemiology, and Middle Eastern cardiovascular registries, and which have resulted in multiple publications. To date, Dr. Al Suwaidi has more than 160 Medline publications in addition to other contributions, including book chapters, abstracts etc., and has presented research work over the years at multiple international cardiovascular conferences.
Dr. Al Suwaidi is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, Fellow of the Society of Coronary Angiography and Interventions, and Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology. He serves on the editorial boards of multiple international medical journals. Dr. Al Suwaidi is Secretary General of the Gulf Heart Association.
